Engine coolant light 2015 ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi. I have just bought a 2015 Fiesta Ecoboost and I have a query regarding the engine coolant light in the dash display. The light is on permanently and the manual says it is supposed to go off. The garage where I bought it (not a Ford specialist) has checked the car thoroughly and says there is nothing wrong and that maybe the display is supposed to be on. Can anyone help?

Is the temperature showing normal or is it high? If it's showing normal then it sounds like it could be a cluster fault maybe. If the temp shows high then your engine is either overheating (I'd check this first lol) or it's something to do with the sensor.

If you want to check what temperature the car computer sees you can do the following:

Press and keep pressed the button located next to your rev counter in instrument cluster

Turn power on to car (still pressing the button in the cluster, engine start not necessary but power needs to be in the mode where air con works)

After some 5-8 seconds the car will go into test menu.

Then press the instrument cluster button to change what's visible in the menu. One of the displays has the temperature car computer thinks your engine has. In my car the unit is in celcius so it has capital C after the temp reading.

Hi. Thanks for replying. No, there is no issue with the engine: it is not overheating, there is no coolant leak, etc. as the garage looked it over. My issue is that the light display is on  permanently and according to the manual it is not supposed to be. Maybe the manual is worded badly. I just want to know if it is supposed to be on.

There would be no point in having a warning light on permanently.   It only comes on to warn you that something is wrong.

The light should not stay on when the engine is cold. If it starts to overheat when it is warm then you need to check what is causing the problem.
