MK4 Security

Recently purchased a 2019 ST Line X and looking at additional OBD security options. Few sites say about pulling OBD port fuse but there's 2 listed in manual for it - 1 under bonnet and other in passenger fusebox. Anyone done this and had any issues, or any advice on what else to do? I've a disklok fitted.

Bought 2 x Faraday pouches and put the fobs in each one. Spare is left elsewhere in house in a locked fireproof safe.

That's not really necessary on the Mk4, unless it's an early one. They all have sleepy keys, since mid 2019.

Not the early ones. Think they came in around May/June 2019

I was forgetting the Mk4 started in 2018, all the Mk4 STs have sleepy keys, but that's because they started production around summer 2019.

Not even that's going to stop thieves when they get their hands on the latest device nicknamed " Game Boy"

I stick all my car keys in a Faraday box, it was pretty cheap and looks nice on the worktop and I always know where the keys are.

Someone tried nicking my Mk3 ST at work, they put the drivers side window through and went straight for the OBD port. Luckily I’d disabled this and hid it right at the back so no one could do anything with it. The most they got away with was a genuine iPhone cable and my OBD diagnostic cable.

Also, have a tracker fitted with a kill switch, they won’t get far and this kills the fuel pump. Tracker is cool, detects: ignition alerts, vibration alerts, movement and all sorts more.

Faraday pouches also used when at home and in the office.

So all in all, just a new drivers side window and hours and hours of cleaning up glass :(

Did you just tuck it away far behind the dash or relocate? Seen the dummy obd ports available and wondered about one and moving the original.

Keys are latest sleeping fobs (confirmed with dealer when i collected).

Yeah, just tooled it right up in to the dash.

I did it that good, I struggle to find it myself haha.
And that’s good news about the fobs, for an added deterrent I stuck an ‘OBD PORT DISABLED’ sticker on the drivers side window and windscreen. Also stuck the tracking device stickers on each window. Seems to have worked so far.

Hi @Richm83 have you found what fuse and where it is located to disable the ODB port? Hi had a theft attempt recently and I have been lucky with that. If interested you can read more in a discussion I opened about it. Thanks!

@Monks600 going to use your suggestions too. I can see you now have an mk4 too. Is the ODB port move something you have done on this car too? Cheers

Hi Frank, just wondering if you could tell me how you 'inserted' the user names in your post please ?

I don't expect you will get an answer from Richm83 as it's over a year since he was last on this forum, but Monks600 was just here on Saturday.

The best test to see if you get the right fuse to kill the car would be to pull the fuse that you think is for the OBDII port and see if the car stops. If its the right one you will end up with a load of warnings on the dash, but switching off and putting the fuse back will sort them.

Most 2019 on MK4s have sleep keys (keys stop transmitting after 20 minutes of no movement)

The MK4 OBD port is security protected

If you're worried about keyless theft (if you don't have sleep keys), get forscan and deactivate passive entry and use the remote buttons to lock/unlock or ask dealer, they will deactivate for you

Hi @DaveT70 sorry but I have to correct you: from my experience (I have tested it) on my mk4, the sleep function works after one minute of no movement and you can deactivate the keyless entry feature on your dashboard, no need of Forscan or dealer.
The OBD port on the mk4 is security protected. What do you mean by this?

How did you test if the key went to sleep ? I have a 2019 Focus and I'm not sure if it has the sleepy (joe) keys or not.

Very simple: put the key on the floor just under the door handle. Open and close the car touching the handle (means key is in range so keyless entry is on - if key is too far, car won’t open). Do nothing for a bit more than a minute. Try opening again. Let me know!

I never noticed the ability to deactivate keyless on dash on mine LOL

So, Forscan/dealer deactivate is MK3.5 and Fiesta then

I believe OBD port will not allow access to modules if key is not present, so you can't program a key without a key, unless you fit new modules (dealer only)
