keyless on Focus mk3

Oh yes, I'll be researching that before I get one.😀

To be fair I am too much down on modern tech, I realise that.  I just see a huge gap between useful stuff like ABS, or where the car applies the brakes harder than you can with your foot, and badly thought out fluff like keyless entry which to me has completely negated the progress in car security.  Back in the 80s I needed a krooklok.  Then things improved and I didn't.  Now I do again.  This to me is just stupid.

To me when we talk about new tech it should be the advantages, how useful it is, that sort of thing. Not that if we just always remember to store keys in a special pouch or an old biscuit tin then it will be safe. If the hassle outweighs the advantage then what have we got?

The biggest steps forward in motoring have been through tech. A 1.0ltr now at 140 bhp compared to my 16v Mondeo 2.0 ltr pushing out 130 bhp?

The mondeo had a single slot CD player, cars now have a micro SD slot that could hold maybe 1000 albums and the ability to stream music or live maps, unthinkable 20 years ago.

The late 80's car crime wave of hot hatches getting stolen led to an increase in insurance that saw sales plummet until they started fitting proper security. The danger of going down the electronic security route is its become an arms race where each development is eventually hacked, compromised or some other clever way to overcome it is found.

You only have to look at the number of cane and hook key thefts, burgulary key thefts or just blatent hijacks to see how hard a modern car is to take without the keys. I'm afraid Guy is right, and the cautious owners will start to turn to old fationed lockable metal lumps to stop theft. A mate years ago had a big chain and padlock from the steering wheel to the accelerator on his Escort Mexico - I might ask him if he still has it 🙂

I too had an old fashioned 'krooklock', I now am the proud owner of a DiscLok! LOL I have a crap car, but I intend to hang on to it!

Chrome version, likely worth more than the car 🤣

Have come across an older yellow version when we bought the Father in laws house. Yet to find the key for it and he (FIL) doesnt know where it is.

My only other concerns are will it damage the Leather steering wheel and do I really have to put the unsightly thing into a modern motor 😯

Fear not, I used it for over a decade on my old Celica GT4 with a leather steering wheel, no marks whatsoever. Though if you are super concerned, simply line the inside edge of it with self adhesive Velcro to really stop any potential scratching. And as for being unsightly, I really like it LOL, and much prefer it to a missing car. If you've lost the key, phone DiskLok and they should be able to provide one if you can provide any providence of ownership, it'll not be cheap but not as expensive as buying a new DiskLok.
