Fod Fiesta 1.6 Won't start- fuel issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently bought my first fiesta (2012 1.6 tdci zetec s) and it's  got an issue with fuel, because it will only start on easy start and won't stay running. Has anyone else had this problem and if so where should I start investigating? I was going to start at the pump in the engine and check all the hoses and regulator, and move on to the in-tank pump afterwards

It runs for a bit and then stops it is likely to be air trapped in the fuel line.

I found this on the web from Matthew in France: After scouring the forums I finally found a solution to this starting problem.
I bled the diesel system on my 1.6 tdci fusion 2005 by connecting a one way hand priming bulb to the return pipe on the high pressure side. I then turned the key to the second notch a few times in order for the hp pump to prime itself I also added a bit of easy start to the air intake and then tried to start. The first attempt didn't work but the second did !
I think we're focusing too much on bleeding the fuel filter when we should be concentrating on pulling air-free fuel through the pump.
The image shows where I connected the the priming bulb to the return hose.

Was it running ok before? Have you done anything like changed fuel filter?

It was bought with this problem, apparently it's had bits and pieces changed before so there might be some air in the system. Otherwise no I haven't looked at anything

Make sure the battery is fully charged before you try starting it. It helps with the compression if the engine turns over faster.
