57 plate focus 2.0 tdci boost fault

Just picked up a new runaround for work a well specced 2007 (57) focus Ghia 2.0 tdci. EML is on and it has no boost. Had a quick rummage around and found two pipe and multi plug down the N/S of the engine. Put two and two together and now with the help of a pen lid I have boost but with the added bonus of ESP warning and it runs like cr*p at 50+ mph. 
This leads me to my question what sensor is missing and has it been removed because turbo was on its way out. I’ve added a picture of where the sensor should be
