PCV without that spongy filter in the air box?

Featured Replies

I just bought a Ford Fiesta V MK6 2003 and I am giving it a full service. When I opened the air box which holds the air filter, I noticed a small oily sponge like filter with a hose connected. The foam had disintegrated and could not be reused. I now know that this is the PCV valve and my question is: "Is it okay to run the engine for a week or two without this spongy filter while I look for a new one." Will it damage my engine? Or not cause any harm at all.

most good air filters come with this sponge

you should be good for a week or two 😊

I think he's talking about the crankcase breather sponge, they aren't in any service schedule I've ever seen but where fitted they should be occasionally cleaned or replaced. I had some similar sponge and used to make my own for a Ford KA by cutting it to size, it was in the airbox lid on the KA.
