Alternator failed on a 4 year old fiesta with only 13k miles?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Earlier today my car cut out and wouldn't start up again. I had the AA out, and the guy told me that the issue is almost certainly the alternator. He was able to charge up the battery but he could see that the engine was not keeping the battery charged so the car rapidly loses power.

The car is only 4 years old and has only done 13k miles in that time, so it seems unusual for the alternator to fail, and I'm a bit disappointed with ford 😞

Has anyone else had an experience like this with their fiesta?

John

Do you have a charge malfunction message coming up on the dash? It is a bit strange for the alternator to fail, I'm wondering if it's an issue with the "smart charge" system. If something is playing up on this system it may cause the alternator not to charge. Disconnect the plug off the alternator with the engine running and see if the battery charges at between 13.5-14.5 volts.
