Water pump replacement cost?

Featured Replies

Our 2013 Fiesta has a small leak from the water pump. It's barely lost any water over the last month or so but we know its there from the small patch underneath the car every so often. A garage had a look yesterday and confirmed its the water pump and quoted £250 to replace. Is that good? I must admit I had about that one £60 for the pump plus labour in my head. It's a back street garage so it feels high.

It's the labour that costs. You didn't say what engine you have, but many are driven from the cambelt. If it is cambelt driven it would be silly not to change it at the same time as they'd have to remove it anyway.

The 1.0L ecoboost isn't cam belt driven for example, however is near it. Unfortunately the cam belt on these are quoted at an 8 hour job at Ford (a normal belt is less than half that usually) hence why your backstreet garage is quoting more than you expected (assuming you have a 1.0L ecoboost lol)

that's useful thanks. It's a 1.25 petrol but I imagine it will be a similar circumstance and cost. I must admit, I hadn't factored in the cam belt in my head calculations

It won't, they're totally different engines.  Much, much easier to change on the 1.25.

£250 sounds an awful lot though space is restricted on the Fiesta so some of the labour is for access.  I'd expect more like £150 tbh.

There is a special tool that speeds up the process on these engines, maybe this particular backstreet garage doesn't have it.  Definitely worth asking for another quote or two.
