Ford Focus MK1 battery light randomly stays after ignition

Featured Replies

Hi everyone , I have a 1.8 tddi 2002 Ford focus and some months ago the car started to have random ignition problems ( sometimes it took like 1,5 more seconds to start) + the battery light stays on, one interesting detail is that when this occurs the dashboard restarts completely.

So at first I had the alternator and battery replaced but the problem was still there, yesterday I replaced the distribution and alternator belt as well, but the damn random ignition problem stays there with the red battery light on. Another detail is when I use the secret menu it displays the dtc 9318 error.

What can it be? Thanks for advance!

Some Info in this post.

I think this engine has a separate pulley shaft to the alternator so when you replace alternator you don’t get new pulley. Does it have a one way clutch built into pulley? My brothers 2008 1.8tdci does and his low voltage problems were down to that one way clutch not gripping properly so alternator turning slowly. Strangely on this car the starter motor would still start the engine when the volts got so low that hardly anything else worked. Normally the starter motor performance is the first sign of charging problems but not on his car
