Focus 2010 - Fuse Tap Sits Loose

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm trying to hardwire a dashcam into a 2010 Focus and am looking at the fuse taps. I haven't really done this kind of work before so I'm a bit baffled as the taps are seemingly the correct type as they are the right size to go into the board and they accomodate the fuses but it sits so loosely in the board that the tap just lifts straight back out again. A small bump and they'd easily be shaken out of the socket, they are not gripped in place by the frame of the plastic, there is no resistance at all on pushing it into place. Have I just got dodgy quality taps or am I doing something wrong here?

Probably just the fuse taps are slightly rubbish fitment. 2 out of the 3 fuse taps I bought from the same place we’re fine. The last one was too big to fit in the slot even though all three looked identical. It’s nothing you’re doing wrong, don’t worry!

I’ve found recently it’s pot luck with a fuse tap that fits in nice and tight.

If you can, try a different fuse slot as it may even be that the original fuse that was in that slot has widened and the spades don’t slot in tight anymore :)

How flexible are the blades on the tap? Could you try splaying the legs of the tap out slightly to try and make a tighter fit?

I’ve also had this trouble . Having a thick wire on it does not help as the rigid ness of the wire pulls it out of the slot. I wouldn’t feel happy unless it was held in with a cable tie but that’s not always easy . If you use cable ties for anything you need to have something in car to cut them in case you need to.

Good suggestion, this seems to be a winner, thanks guys.
