Best diseal fuel additive is it worth it

Featured Replies

Hi everyone i drive a 58 plate ford focus 1.8 TDCI with 76 odd thousand miles owned it now for 2 weeks. I am taking it for a good run soon so I am just wondering what is the best additive I can add?

I've been looking at Wynns WY12264 Xtreme Diesel System Clean Powerful One Tank Clean-Up, 325 ml.....

Lucas Oil 10020 Fuel Treatment which does petrol and diesel.

I think with lockdown and forecourt being closed the car as been sitting around for a while its quick of the mark plenty of response.

Thank you

Alan

Any should be good as long as you have a good amount of polyetheramine in it, like miller's ecomax diesel.

BG44K for diesel, BG244 for petrol.

I've used BG44 for the diesel additive, but it should really be used as part of a overall engine clean (oil, EGR, etc). Though doing the oil can be nerve wracking. LiquiMoly is another brand I've used in the past with good results.

This said, I use BP or Shell premium fuels and they'll do a similar job these days and I fill up every 4-5 times or with premium and the rest of the time with standard mix.

If it's been sitting around for a while, idle the car for at least 10 min before setting off to let the oil circulate and the other parts get 'settled', otherwise you may cause damage.

I drove diesels for over 20 years and always used Millers.

The best diesel additive for 1.8tdci engine is NONE. There is no improvement in using it, so it's a waste of time and money. Myself rather replace a fuel filter every 15 k miles (filter with declared filtering of 4-5  microns, like Delphi, Clean Filter, Mahle or Mann).

You really want something that increases the cetane (equivalent to octane in petrol) I used Forte with great results then the last bottle I bought said on the label 'doesn't increase cetane' so they've changed the formula. Forget Redex, and I've never heard of that Lucas one. For me, best results are achieved by pouring a bottle into under a quarter of a tank, then putting in another 10.litres and going for a long drive/blast
