Miles to empty drops like crazy

Featured Replies

Hi all i recently bought a focus 58 plate 1.8TDCI just over 76000 miles I've notice the miles to empty drops like crazy on normal roads and motorways is this normal its only recently just started this ever since i put sainsburys diseal in it. Its the first diseal I've owned coming from a 1.4 seat ibiza petrol.

Don't get me wrong pulls like a dream the odd bit of black smoke on acceleration but apart from that all good.

Thanks in advance

Top tip- don't use Sainsburys diesel it's crap.

When I decided to change my fab Diesel twin turbo 215bhp Saab I'd had from new for 10 years the PX prices were so poor I gave it to my Son in Law. After a coupe of weeks he had a problem - it was in Limp mode. He does a decent mileage, couldn't figure it out. It Still did 75 in limp mode so he lived with it and after a while it went back to normal. 2 weeks later it did it again and he realised it was each time he'd put Sainsbury's diesel in. He brimmed the tank with some one else's fuel and after a couple of days it went back to normal. He's had it 11 months now, no more Sainsbury's diesel and it hasn't done it since. The car is benefitting from his longer commute and drives better than when I was doing so many short trips, less regen's and more poke. So I'd have to agree with Stoney.

My car lives on Sainsbury's diesel👍

Is it Sainsburys 'city diesel'...  I always found that to be more smokey in de-catted diesels (ended up with a sooty tailgate very quickly) so haven't dared risk it in any DPF cars...  It's the same price as BP here anyway, so I just use that instead.

Can't say I noticed much difference in MPG though, maybe 1 or 2 lower over a tankful.  The range works off your driving style though, so if you've been doing a lot of slow & steady driving and then suddenly jump on the motorway at 80mph the range will start to drop quickly!

Have to stick with esso diseal from now on when I was using that the miles to empty never dropped as much has using sainsburys diseal.
