Ignition Replacement

Featured Replies

I have a Ford Fiesta 15 plate. Both keys have been dodgy in the ignition barrel for some time (found a knack to get it to work most times) but now it wont start. Pretty confident its not the key as the spare key is still in great condition and not as worn down as the every day key.

I am hoping to get a new ignition barrel ordered and get it adapted to fit my old key in order to avoid changing locks and the electronics side of the key.

I plan to order the ignition barrel through my local ford authorized parts dealer and then a place called city locks will adjust the barrel to fit my old key. (and then potentially make me a new key to replace the worn one). A friend will then fit the ignition at home as I cant start the car to get it to the garage.

Does anyone know a reason why this wont work or any other advice as i am not car savvy.

Also is it possible to get the key details from Ford, like a numbers pattern or something that they can use to make a new key/set the barrel upto rather that using an old key?

Appreciate any help.

I had a key cut by an ebay seller from a photo. There are only a certain number of variations in each step on the key and they can tell from pic if it’s step 1 level or step 2 level etc. I don’t know if a ford dealer would be as good at recognising each step on the key from photo as an eBay seller who does it all the time but I would have thought they could.

Ford don't cut the keys themselves (not at dealer level anyway lol). They just go to a local auto-locksmith. That's your best bet, cut out the middle man.
