Clutch not releasing with pedal movement

Hi,

My wife has a 2013 1.0 Ecotec and it's started to have a problem with the clutch whereby there's a delay with the clutch engaging when you raise the pedal.

It's annoying if you're waiting to pull out at a junction and you go for a gap in the traffic, let the clutch pedal up but nothing happens for a second or two and it suddenly engages with a bang and either stalls or makes you look like a boy racer.

Can anybody offer a suggestion as to what it might be that needs fixing?
