Engine Coolant Cover stuck

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Saw my engine coolant was just below the minimum. so decided to top up. On removing the cover the second part of it is stuck in the hole, as below.

Any idea how I can remove it ?

TIA

Apparently it is a common problem so will try the WD40 and two screwdriver attempt to get it out.

When you get a new screw cap get some silicon grease and spread on the threads.   That will cure the problem of it sticking.

You may be able to remove it with large long nose pliers or failing that you may need to drill a hole in what's left then lever it off. Either way I would get a new cover ready first as you'll need it as soon as the old one is removed. It is indeed a very common problem.

The way I got mine out when it did this. I screwed top back on. Then drove car until warmed up a bit but not fully. Then when I undid it the pressure helped push the bottom bit up with the top bit. But you must be careful you do not have it too hot and get scalded by steam , hot water. A large cloth is wise , like a large towel
