Fiesta mk4 facelift central locking

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I recently got insured on my gran’s old fiesta which sat on a drive for 13 years. W reg.....

it’s got its original timing belt and pretty much everything as it was bought 20 years ago apart from a new stereo, a sub in the back and a led light fitting (usb) in the boot... aswell as a new battery (52Ah).

my question is has anyone attempted to install OEM central locking to the car via electronic key? Even if it’s just to open the doors... or tried to install / wire up themselves a tailgate release motor and release switch... so you can open the boot without using the key in ignition.

any replies would be much appreciated!

Timing belts degrade over time as well as mileage...that should really be replaced before you start driving it regularly.

Does the car already have central locking, just not remote locking?  If it doesn't even have central locking, it will be a lot of hassle to add the OE stuff.

Was in the middle of typing my reply when Tom posted pretty much everything I had just typed haha. I'll just post the TLDR I guess...

But yeh would cost more than the cars worth to retrofit it imo.

I'm surprised the belt is still in 1 piece after 20 years...
