New Battery

Featured Replies

This is an old chestnut but I can't remember the answer.  I suspect I may need a new battery soon.  Does disconnecting the battery remove all settings or will I be able to carry on as normal when the new one  is fitted ?  The car is  a 2014 Fiesta Ecoboost 1.0 Auto.

You should be fine, I swapped the battery on my 14 plate focus and I think the only thing that reset was my mpg and the odd thing on the screen behind the wheel.

Radio didn’t change at all which was handy! Was worried I’d have to trawl through adding all my favourite dab stations etc.

You'll need to reset the one touch windows but that's all.

I was going to say that aswell haha, glad you chimed in! Honestly couldn’t remember! Now you’ve mentioned it... it’s coming back to me :)

It can reset the ECU too, so don't worry if the engine sounds/feels a little off for the first 100 miles, while it re-calibrates itself.

When I fitted a new battery on our Mk2.5 recently I connected a 12V power unit to the cig lighter socket to maintain the supply. You just have to be careful to keep the battery +ve clamp away from any metalwork. Any small 12V source will do. It's best if it can only supply a limited current in case you accidentally short the cable to the body.

That's an excellent idea except on my car the 12v socket is not connected with the ignition off.  Brilliant for those cars where the socket is permanently live.

Well, in the past I've done it by clipping a small battery across the main battery leads, not as easy or convenient as the cig socket but still doable.
