Oil in/on throttle body plug connector

Featured Replies

Hi all, hope you're all safe and well!

My car is a Ford Fiesta TDCI 1.4 55 plate.

Recently its been hard to start in the mornings or just when left for a day's work.

I've done some digging around and found that there's oil getting into the throttle body plug. When it's covered in it, car will struggle to start, when I clean it, no problems!

How is the oil getting into the plug? There's no oil that I can feel/see dripping from anywhere else.

Also, the wire end of the plug sometimes gets oil around it also!

It comes from inside the valve.  Placing the plug at the bottom was not the best design choice!

So there's no real way to stop this? 😂

Well, not easily!

You could buy a new valve but they're not cheap.  Used ones almost all have the same problem.

You could clean out all of the boost pipes and then fit an oil catch can to stop any more crank breather oil from entering the system.

Or if you're good with fiddly jobs, you could split the valve casing open and try to work out if there's a small o-ring or anything that could be replaced.

We do see this issue on here quite often but people seem to see the price of a new valve and decide to just put up with the leak!
