New windscreen and lacquer peel

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new here as I just bought my girlfriend a 2004 fiesta (which she doesn't know yet) to get started driving over here as she has only ever driven in Greece.

Couple of issues I want to get sorted before I give it to her, new tyres going on at the weekend, but it needs a new windscreen, and the bonnet and passenger wing look awful due to lacquer peeling off.

Being quoted over £300 for a new screen, which is what I paid for the car... Is there anywhere you can recommend cheaper? Don't care about it being heated or not! Is it impossible to fit one myself if I got hold of the screen?

Planning to get various grit sandpaper, and clear coat from halfords and attempt spraying the bonnet and upper wing myself at the weekend. It's obviously not going to be a show winning car, but any advise before I start? Or recommendations of a Surrey bodyshop that could do a very cheap job of spraying them?

Otherwise the car is great, drives well, looks good (aside from the front end paint) and after a good clean inside, no longer smells like wet dog!!

If the car is insured and has windscreen cover you could always go through that, might only cost you around £80 then? As for the lacquer peeling off maybe watch a couple of YouTube videos for tips, unless you don't mind paying someone to paint it? Best of luck 👍
