Remote Key Fob Stopped Working

Featured Replies

Hi there,

New member here  :)

I have a:  Ford Fiesta LX 2005

For awhile now my car alarm kept going off almost constantly when the battery would go in my key fob.

Several times i had to quickly disconnect the main car battery, replace the fob battery and then things would be fine again.

But now after eating up several batteries over a matter of time my fob has stopped working.

Currently i have to lock the car manually from the drivers door and go into the boot manually too.

I've been getting all kinds of quotes and not sure what my best option would be.

Can anyone please advise me on this situation?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

The battery going flat in the key wouldn’t make the alarm go off , it’s unusual to keep replacing batteries unless they are cheap unbranded ones .  Pop in a new battery and it prob needs re programming to enable the remote central locking . If it still does work then you will have to buy a new remote and get it programmed

The alarm going off is due to the manual unlocking.
The car doesn't detect the immobiliser chip until the key is in the ignition so will give you about 10 seconds to put the key in or will sound the alarm.
It's to protect against the locks being picked or forced.
If the car gets the remote unlock signal from the key then it accepts the entry as legitimate.
You can buy a new rcl circuit board and swap it over to the key case quite easily.
Done it for friends a few times.
