Engine Warning Light

Featured Replies

Selected the wrong gear the other day and went around a corner in 5th instead of 3rd

No real issues, the car grumbled a bit but made it round without stalling, before a realised and pt it into 3rd

Anyway - it seems to have put on the engine management light which is still on a few weeks later

Tried disconnecting the battery, but no joy

What diagnostic tool do people recommend?

Just want a cheap & cheerful one from ebay to solve the problem

You can get a tool from Ebay that will read the fault code(s) and maybe also let you reset the warning light.

However, the light may come back on if there is a fault on the car that developed when you made the above mistake..

It will keep coming back on until the fault is fixed unless it is a non critical warning.

Any cheap OBD2 reader should clear an engine management light.  But most won't read Ford specific codes or clear any other lights.  You're better of with Forscan, free on a laptop, a few quid for the mobile app.  We recommend Tunnelrat adapters on here as quality control can be poor on cheaper equivalents.

Thanks for the quick replies.

The light is amber, which I have read is not too bad and the car drives fine.

I assume I still need a lead to connect Forscan to the car?

Yes, you'll need a modified ELM327 lead or wireless dongle - recommended from Tunnelrat as linked above.
