Upgrade to Fiesta mhev or switch to focus

Featured Replies

Hey mates!

I'm currently running a Fiesta mk8 st line 125 from 2019 and I have the opportunity to upgrade my ride.

I've been eying the new focus mhev and I'm very keen on getting that model. I'm looking at some st line x models with the newer mhev 155 engine. Thing is, this one gets kinda pricey and I'm not sure it's fast and responsive enough even with that engine.

Other thing I've been considering is getting an st line x with the newer mhev 155 and all the kit. I know for a fact that this engine on the Fiesta makes it pretty fast. Other things I would be getting over mine is the newer b&o, rear cam, center console but nothing much more since mine is almost fully decked.

The puma is out of discussion since my wife doesn't like it at all hehe.

What are your thoughts on this? Is the focus decent enough even on the 125 engine?

Greetings!

It depends on what you're after I guess, the fiesta has definitely got more poke and is better on fuel due to the weight difference but the focus does have a few more toys and space. The 125 feels a bit sluggish so the 155 is a must.

I personally think the focus looks better and doesn't have as much road noise. The price tag is a bit steep though.

Yeah, I'm more inclined on getting the Fiesta at the moment. The new 155 mhev is really tempting.

Where can I find the new change list of this newer version? For example, it now comes with led beams standard from factory.

I’ve got a 155 hybrid fiesta and I think it’s a pretty solid buy the gear ratios are different to the 125 so it doesn’t feel as fast of the line but on a motorway it is very very good I would recommend

A lot of people have said that the Focus is expensive but it is at least as well made and equipped as a 3 series and better finished, too. These are no longer "Dagenham Dustbins",

as my generation were told in my childhood but now sit higher up the pecking order than they did. Having given up on Mercedes ever building a decent car again (after five of constantly declining standard,) I look at Dacia, Kia, Hyundai Nissan/Renault, Vauxhall/Peugeot and MG to be a good rung below a modern Ford. Not one of them has a comparable engine and not one of them has a chassis in the same class, and if you think a Ford expensive just look how little you get for the cost of a Volkswagen!

Pity Ford don't have a Focus auto with decent power.

Yes, That is a drawback of the current range, particularly petrol - yawning gap between the 1.0 and the 2.3 ST. In fairness, it's a similar story with other brands. Golf goes from 150ps 1.5 to 245ps GTI, 1-Series from 140ps 118i to 306ps 135I (265ps 128ti coming shortly).

You could debate that endlessly I suppose, but it's certainly the case that the "perceived quality gap" is not what it was. Friend of mine abandoned Mercedes for similar reasons to you and is now on Honda. I've had a couple of Audis in the past but was looking at the latest A1 as a potential future replacement for the Fiesta and was not impressed.

My old "Dagenham Dustbin" Mk 1 Cortina was a pretty good car (best ventilation ever imo), shame it needed so many trips to the welder, but most cars did back then!😃

The market splits differently these days. I was a fast car junkie for years (I still get flashbacks,) but find that a 150 Horsepower hatchback doesn't shave journey times like it did. 250 BHP is fun on the track but willy waving elsewhere. The cars are there for those that want them and cost the manufacturers little more than base models to make and so are profitable. The other side of the market is driven by ecological considerations and running costs. I can live with ten seconds to sixty if I can have 50 mpg because I travel a lot. The middle is a tiny part of the market. If it weren't, Ford would fill the gap and the lower end is bigger due to poorer people being increasingly forced out of their still viable old cars.

Draconian penalties for "speeding" have not helped either but speed kills congestion so councils slow traffic by any means possible so that charges can be introduced. Southampton, for example has been doing so quite blatantly for the ladt twenty years.
