Mk3 2012 squeak noise

Featured Replies

Ford Focus mk3, strange squeaking noise when driving over 30mph. Whether cruising, accelerating or braking.

See video here: www.dropbox.com/s/chkk9z02bmgq7e9/IMG-9551.MOV?dl=0

Very annoying on motorway or dual carriageways without radio on.

At first thought this was the seat, have lubricated passenger seat side underneath no difference. However it does seem quieter the noise if a passenger is in the seat.

Appears to eminate from front of car or passenger side but can't pin point it.

Not sure if potential origins are air conditioning, a belt in engine, the car seat, suspension etc.

Any ideas much appreciated, I'm aiming to sell the car shortly and would prefer to solve the issue before sale to avoid a potential buyer being put off or demanding a lower price.

Seat rubbing against plastic possibly?

If you suspect the passenger seat and can’t identify the sound you could remove It and take a spin.At least if it’s not ,you have eliminated the seat making the noise👍

Broken welds of the seat frame base are a well known problem of many Ford models. This usually results in sqeaking noises when driving.

If the noise is different / louder with a passenger on the seat you should start inspecting the seat frame base for any broken / cracked welds.

Did you resolve this? I have the same on mine, also noticeable when closing the boot. Like you I thought it was the seat or bootlid strut however, after jumping around in the back seat and opening and closing the boot about a hundred times, I think I found the cause to be between the bumper and wheel arch, at the panel join. I fiddled around inside the wheelarch and pulled out some stones and dirt and somehow, it seems to have sorted it… at least whilst closing the boot. I haven’t driven anywhere yet as I didn’t want to lose my parking space!
