Fiesta 2020 model

Featured Replies

This Fiesta is 3 months old and have had three complaints about the build quality and the quality of the Continental tyres.

First the drivers electric window switch broke, second then the drivers side seat belt connection case broke, both were replaced under warrantee,

Third had a puncture from a thorn on the road would you believe after only a few thousand miles, thought okay change to the spare, but thats the trouble started, the wheel brace is very different from previous models I've had, its just a metal shelve bracket been converted to resemble a wheel brace, tried to loosen the wheel nuts and it just buckled and would not loosen the nuts, so had to use a socket spanner and large spanner to take to nuts off, also the wheel brace is useless in winding the jack up, it takes a long time and you scrape your hand on the ground, in a few words, (not fit for purpose.) anyone else had similar issues? had to have anew tyre at the cost £120, the wall on the tyres are to spongy no wonder a thorn went straight through.

We were discussing how strong the folding wheel brace on the Mk8 could be on another thread recently...looks like we've got an answer here.

Must've been a tough thorn, even on soft compound Rainsports I haven't seen a thorn go through!

Well there we have it mate, as we said clever design, but weak

Just out of interest what tyres are the new Fiestas shipping with these days?

My 69 plate has continentals, the mrs 18 plate are Michelin tyres.

The showroom stlx last week was also continentals.

Hers are 17 inch alloys, mine 18.

my 69 plate has michelin pilot 4 on 18" wheels

Our 20 plate Active has Contis but it's the old 100Ps built in 2019

So the MK8 now have the space saver wheel not like my old 2011 Titanium that stupid fluid you pump in which i changed as soon as i found out years ago.

Nope. Both our Mk8's have tyre inflation kits with the mini compressor in the boot. The one that has just been ordered for upgrade (2021 model) also has the inflation kit.

The Mk 8 has always had the inflation kit as standard, mini spare is optional on most versions for £150 or you can source your own spare + toolkit as several members have. My car came on Michelin PS4, btw.

My 70plate St-line edition hybrid came with a space saver as standard.

Can't stand that kit as they only last so long where a spare wheel is there when you need it.

A space saver is a spare wheel, you are referring to the tyre inflation kit - which is absolutely useless!

I wonder if Ford have stopped using the useless latex gunk.

Useless latex gunk is still standard according to the latest price list you can download (28 September) and on the configurator, with space saver spare as an option. Maybe Mark's car came with a wheel as the car had already been built with that option fitted. I see some of the other cars still listed as available by his dealer (Gates) show fitted options, including spare wheels.

Spare wheels are left out to reduce weight & improve mpg. Always use to get full size wheel on older cars(60's,70's & 80's) even if wheels were steel.

Yes, victims of CO2 mania. I think the last new car I bought with a full size spare was my Audi A4 in 2003.

Yep, inflation kit is standard in all fiesta models. Spare wheels and space savers are an optional extra.

Cars with spare wheels or space savers from new, I can only presume were stock cars which had them added as an option when the dealership ordered them.

The VW CC (facelifted Passat CC) still came with a full size spare in 2014.  Heavy 18" Interlagos alloy too, I was very surprised!  What's even more odd is that they came with Conti self-sealing tyres from the factory...so the spare seems even less necessary.  Oh...and the manual 2.0 TDI still got into the £30 tax bracket!

That's what i mean mate..inflation kit and spare wheel the space saver as the kit as you said is useless.

Bit weird that the switch and belt casing broke being so new,are all cars now doing cut backs on quality like cheaper items and charge us the same mad prices.

My neighbour used a repair kit & he left a trail of the stuff all the way up the road, all he had was a screw in it (which his dad removed prior to using the kit).

I always keep one of these in the car.   Unbeatable.
