MK2.5 bonnet struts

Featured Replies

Hello, dudes and dudettes!

Thinking of putting on some bonnet struts, but i am very fond of making and fabricate things myself, so i will make the brackets and order the struts. But, how long do they need to be, and how many newton? The length depends of course on where i am to place the brackets, but i thought of making something similar to this strut kit

I think i saw a thread by Lenny about this a while ago, and i think i read that about 50 cm's of lenght was mentioned. So this might just boils down to have many newtons they need to be to keep the bonnet up 😀

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Anybody have an idea? I found a newtonwizzard and calculated that 800 N would be sufficient.

My goodness, these are widely available commercially, though I am far too tight to pony up the £60 for a set LOL I fitted them to a previous car and wouldn't have been without them so a great modification! Maybe you're just bored with lockdown and looking for a project to keep you occupied, in which case, good luck...

I will have no problem making the bits and brackets, i do it partly for a living aswell, so it will be a fun part to make! If they had only cost 60 here in Norway i would have just bought a kit, but if you double or triple the price you can get them for you will be close to what i have to pay for them. Therefore i found it very cheap to just eBay some struts and make the rest myself😀
