Headlamp settings Ford Focus Titanium 1.6 Ecoboost May 2013

Featured Replies

Hi, anyone know how the headlamp levelling control works on a Mk3 Focus?  I've tried adjusting the wheel on the right hand side of the facia down by the rotary light switch, which has 4 settings, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.  Should I hear motors whirring as they alter the headlamp level, as I do on my daughters Peugot 107?  If so perhaps the motors have jammed/fuse blown, or do they work some other way?

The headlight beam level is adjusted by an electric servo motor inside each of the headlights. According to the position of the adjustment knob of the headlight switch the electric servo motors will adjust the beam to the corresponding level.

Just position the car in front of a wall with the lights on. When the adjustment knob is adjusted to a different position the beam should be adjusted in accordance with the position of the knob. When the beam is not adjusted there is clearly something wrong.

It is not uncommon for the electric servo motors to brake down. These are an integral part of the headlight assembly and are not available as a spare part. Apart from this gaining access to the electric motors is very difficult and basically means that the headlights need to be cut.

Ok, thanks. Can't recall using them in the last few years so suspect they've seized then as there seems no difference whether I set the wheel to 1 or 4 😞
