Mystery bolt

Featured Replies

Hi, probably a long shot but can anyone identify this bolt? I found it on my driveway in the location the engine bay is normally over. My Focus is a Titanium 1.0 125 Mk3.5 on a 15 plate. The bolt has a bit of damage at the end so I am hoping it could have been picked up on my travels and fallen out on the driveway. I've had a look around the underside and engine bay but can't see anything hanging off but for peace of mind it would help if it was definitely not a bolt associated with a Focus! Cheers.

That's not from a Focus.   Looks like a bike fairing bolt to me.

Thanks for the quick reply 👍 I can now drive the car not worrying that it's about to fall apart like a clown car! 🤡

Good thread! Reminded me that I too have a mystery nut found recently on driveway, with some body colour paint on it. Any idea? (20p coin for scale!)

Well, if it's the same colour as your car, it probably came from it...

Looks like a bonnet hinge nut.

Will check tomorrow in daylight, thanks for the steer Tom...

Just checked, although the same shape as the bonnet hinge nuts, it is slightly bigger, and all are intact. Guess I'll just wait till something falls off LOL

Could be a wing nut then...  There's very little bolted on before paint!

Hi Tom, you could be right. The top of the wings are covered by a plastic shield with those godawful plastic screw/popper fittings. I just tried to remove them to have a look at the wing fitting but the screws just spin mercilessly in situ, and I know if I try and pry them out, they'll just break! I did get a wing replaced last year, so hopefully the bodyshop 'dropped' that nut, couldn't find it, and replaced with a new one (!), and it has only recently dislodged itself.

I think they spot welded along the top, more likely to be at the front, behind the headlight.  But yes, if you've had a wing changed, I'd say that's almost certainly where it came from.

Reminds me of the nuts behind the headlamp when doing a fan module recall.
