Ignition key not turnig

Hi have focus 2007 and having trouble with key not turning once glow plug goes off. After usually 6 attempts it is ok. Have noticed though once glow plug goes off I hear 2 clicks but won’t turn but if I hear 3 clicks then it will. Any advice why and how to remedy.

    A squirt of WD40 or spray grease down the ignition barrel might free things up ??
