Ford Pass Guard Mode released today

Featured Replies

Hi,  Just a  heads up for anyone using Ford Pass app.  Guard mode feature added  at least on android...not sure about  Apple.

Seems to work well.

Cheers

Steve

I have the option on iOS too, got the update a few days ago, not tried it yet though, waiting to see if this version fixes the battery drain issue.

I have a Ford Fiesta ST 3 and Guard has been added to my ford pass app I don't know much about it yet

Doesn't this also require a Sync3 software update for it to work?

What does it do?

It’s not related to sync, but the modem needs to download an update itself to work. So if you don’t have the connected modem features on the car the new mode can’t work as it needs a way to communicate back to the Ford servers to alert you.

It basically just sends you a notification any time a door is opened, unlocked, engine started etc. It’s intended for you to only turn the feature on when needed. Say you’ve left it parked up somewhere and want to be notified if it detects anything. It would be annoying to leave it on all the time as you’ll get notifications even using it yourself.

Its an "App" on your phone gives you info on how much fuel you have mileage you can book a service, on new models with a built in modem you can start the car remotely (auto only) and lock/unlock from anywhere

Low battery charge warning would be useful, is that on there?

Is there any real benefit to having the app as it seems like everything it does is either on the dash (fuel) or online (service booking) anyway?

I quite like the remote door lock/unlock function, for those rare occasions when you suddenly think.....did I lock my car?

I remember the volvo equivalent had a lot more functionality such as starting air con or opening windows so on hot days you can let some air in (or a scroat) before you got inside.

Yes, the door lock and unlock is useful when the keys are lost in the tardis of her handbag!

The app also has a tracking function, journey mapper, user manuals, breakdown contact etc.

I am not sure if you can even plan your journey and send it to the car satnav before even getting in the car.

If I hadn't ever used the app , I probably wouldn't be interested but having it and using it, I would rather have it than not.

Thanks guys.  I don't tend to carry a handbag myself lol, and powerfold mirrors make for a good locking check through the window, but I will give it a go and see what it's like!

If your car has that functionality it is a good idea to download it and set it up in case you need it one day. You can always Force Stop it and it will stay that way unlike Android Auto and some other Apps.

Apart from what has been mentioned above, the Tyre Pressure readout could be handy if you have one of those annoying slow punctures. You can refresh it and get a live readout while eating your breakfast so that you know if you have to leave for work 5 minutes early to put air in the tyres.

The Location could be handy if your partner brakes down in the middle of nowhere or you want to keep a check on your offspring.

There is no State of Charge warning unfortunately, and I wish Ford would put it in the Instrument Cluster as well.

I still haven't downloaded the new update, but I'm sure the version I have tells you if the Alarm has been activated, so I don't see the point in the update unless you don't lock your car.

Since the guard mode has been live on ford app. Every time I use my car. I get a massage that someone has tried to get  unauthorised access to my car either through driver or passenger door.  Should I take my car to Ford garage to be looked at. Or how can I stop this. Thank you

Mine does too  I guess there is no way your car or app can deferentiate between friend or foe.  But to me it doesn't matter too much as I'd rather have the notification, and always know when its me that opened it 🙂

Where is Guard Mode?  Can't see it in my android app and I'm up to date.

You should see it under vehicle details should have a title which says guard active Guy, can't remember just now if you have to enable it in settings.

I havent got that.  Maybe something on the car itself needs updating.

I should try again and update the app. Once it appears on the app you have to follow the on screen instructions and also have to be in the car as far as I know to activate it.

I didnt set mine up. My Mrs did and we have it on both phones.

I've got the latest app version that's supposed to include guard mode but don't see it when app is opened.

To be honest unless it shouts "Get back you *****, I'll break your legs " I'm not sure I'm bothered.  😀

I wouldn't bother with it tbh but where I have to leave the car for work ( on an Industrial estate) where there has already been some motorbike and car thefts of late. It's a handy thing to have. Saying that by the I'd be out of the building the car would be long gone probably on the M1 😆
