Leaking Drivers Front Footwell Wet Carpets and Soundproofing

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 1.6 Diesel Focus Estate, I have owned for approximately 6 years, no troubles. I have had my windscreen damaged by my garage during an MOT who replaced it themselves, no Ford original windscreen fitted!

I have a wet drivers side floor (carpet and sound proofing both soaked!) rain water mainly settles on the floor adjacent to the bottom of A post and front door. The garage said it was not them the windscreen has been fitted correctly, but I have not had this happen until the broken windscreen. I wash and vac the car fairly regularly so would like to say I would have noticed this water puddling on the floor before now.

I have stripped back the carpet and some of the accessible soundproofing and can see a water trail going up the drivers side wheel arch so far as I cannot see past the upper sound proofing. I have checked the A/C drain pipe - ok, I do not have a Pollen filter housing on the top of the scuttle area, the scuttle area and drain holes look fairly well sealed and drains are clear. The leaks occur during long bouts or heavy rain.

Are there any photos available of areas of the bulkhead or wheel arch seals or seams that cause problems I have read about so I can investigate before I go back again to the garage.

Can anyone please help? I have very limited resources as I park in the street no access to a garage

Let's study the evidence. You've recently had the windscreen replaced. The leak appears to occur mainly after heavy rainfall (Seemingly ruling out an internal leak like from the heater matrix). I think you're on the right track. Even if the new screen isn't a branded 'Ford' one, it still should not leak if it were properly sealed on installation. If it were me, I would take it back to the garage and explain, 'OK guys, you're a garage, where do you think the leak is coming from?'...

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
