Now, my tech knowledge is very limited, but, this does sound like an increasingly common 'instrument cluster' fault. This was caused by tree huggers persuading Ford to take out lead from electrical solder, leaving a sub standard formula which after a number of years causes dry cracks in the circuit board leading to all sorts of gremlins! I'm sure someone more intelligent than me will be along shortly...

I doubt this is a cluster fault. More likely you do actually have low fuel rail pressure. Out of interest which fuel filter did you use? And do you fill it with supermarket fuel?

I'd guess you perhaps have a leaky injector or a bad pressure sensor. Worst case scenario the fuel pump needs replacing. Theyre pretty expensive if I remember correctly.

I think air getting into the fuel line from tank via filter to the diesel pump is the first cause to check. Once a more than a trace of air has got in, it will fail to start. There is no tank pump, the main pump has to suck it all the way from the tank, and it does not suck at all well on air. Filter faults, or cracked hoses are common causes of air ingress.

When you say it does not start, I assume it is cranking but not firing. The fuel system will need to be re-bled.
