Start/stop -Not turning off and battery drain

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2014 1.5 diesel focus with start/stop function.    Over the last 6 weeks has developed a fault where the engine will not stop (after turning off the ignition) unless you open the door.   I assume that this is to with the fact that computer thinks that the battery is flat?      I have replaced the battery and the car is producing 14 amps when running so I have ruled out the alternator.      When the car is switched off there is a electrical high pitched electrical sound to let left of the engine bay like some thing is not shutting down.  The sound continues for 4 hours plus.      The car has been to the Garage three times and they haven't been able to identify the fault.     Last time they pulled the fuses on the car and the problem seems to go away for 7-10 days and then it comes back    I have read that on other forums that the blue tooth coms could be an issue?

Any suggestions from anyone?

Have you tried resetting the BMS since you changed the battery? If you haven't 'told' the car there is a new battery then it may be working under the old parameters, especially if you did not change it exactly like for like.

If the alternator really is producing 14 amps when running then it is probably knackered. If its actually running at 14 volts it might be ok.

The engine shouldn't run on after switch off even if the battery is low.  It just won't activate the stop start if you stop at traffic lights.  I don't believe this is a battery fault.

High pitched whine is normal for a short period but shouldn't last for more than a minute or so.  It's the EGR solenoid self-testing.

Does the dash go off when you open the door or is it all still illuminated?  It sounds like the ignition is stuck on to me.  Is it a key ignition or button start?
