Anyone got any ideas why my focus keeps jumping out of 6th now and then would it need a rebuild

Your car has the Ford B6 / Getrag 6MTT250 transmission. This type of transmission is used on the 1.6 / 1.5 TDCI and the 1.6 / 1.5 and 1.0 ECOboost engines.

Premature transmission wear is a known problem on the 1.6 / 1.5 TDCI engines. The premature wear is caused by the high torque output of the engine at low RPM's. This allows driving in the highest possible gear. The low RPM however results in lack of lubrication of the transmission.

You can either have the gearbox rebuild completely by a specialist or install a replacement gearbox.

It's drives completely fine but only in 6th gear that I notice it's trying to jump sometimes

Do you think putting new gearbox oil would solve this

No, changing the transmission oil will most likely not solve this.

The oil that is used on the Ford B6 / Getrag 6MTT250 transmission is the same oil that is used on the Powershift transmissions. This type of oil has a very low viscosity (thin as water). This type of oil is great for fuel economy but not very good for high engine torque at low RPM's. The combination of low viscosity oil and driving at low RPM's with high engine torque will result in increased transmission wear caused by insufficient lubrication

It will not hurt to replace the transmission oil. The Ford B6 / Getrag 6MTT250 transmission has a quite small oil capacity of only 1,7 Litre. However do not expect this to solve the problem.

As well as what is mentioned above, cruising with your hand on the Gear lever can also cause premature wear. Even if you don't do this, maybe a previous owner did.
