02 Ford Focus Power Steering Pump Pressure Switch Help Please!

I found that the power steering pump oil pressure switch was leaking through the centre of it which I believe is because the diaphragm has failed.

What I want to know is do I really need such a thing, I'll know when the reservoir is too low as I'll hear and feel it.

Could I just not replace it with like a blanking plug?

    Its a pressure switch which increases the engine rpm at low speed when manoeuvring to stop the engine stalling.
    Its a normally closed contact which opens to increase the engine speed so should you disconnect it the engine idle speed will be high unless you ground the wire.
