new gps unit being fitted

Hi all hope you're all keeping safe,

been having problems with my GPS so while the car was in for a service i mentioned this and was asked to bring the car back, so they could find out what was wrong.

The car went back and it seems the GPS unit is not working as it should and will be replaced this week under warranty.

but what i would like to know from anybody that has had this done,

is the new unit connected to your vin number as soon as the work is carried out?

will i be able to update as and when they do become available?

if the new unit is out of date for maps will i be able to update even though it thinks its up to date F8 not F9 the newer maps?

also if anybody has had this done in the past what if any problems did you come across and how did you solve them?
