Power steering fluid issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks!!

New to the thread so please bare with me.

I have a Ford Focus Mk2 2005 Petrol and I have an issue with the power steering fluid.

The fluid in the system is red and is low, the only fluid that i am finding is green fluid and the spec that I am in need of is WSS-M2C204-A2.

I have read posts and asked in the shops but all the answers are different, some say stick with red to top up but the ones I'm finding is ATF which I don't know if that is suitable for a top up.

My questions are can I drain the red fluid and replace it with new green fluid and if so, would this damage the steering system? Or shall I stick with red fluid? Any recommendations?

Many thanks in advance for all your help!!

the manual is correct, the dealerships are correct, a few dodgy factories used up stocks of the old rubbish you don't want so plenty were made with the wrong fluid

green is best, if you want to do well you need 1.5 litres.... ending up with Ford fluid in there.... buy a litre of cheap green and 1 litres of the 17 quid ford stuff, suck reservoir dry top up with green, start it up wiggle the wheel just short of full lock 3 times each way, turn off repeat.  After that 3 times and 1 litre gone 98% of the red will be gone.  A week later do the same and end up with sparkling fresh ford green fluid

be aware the car has a vulnerability where the high pressure PAS pipe will crack, it should have been a safety recall to fit the modified bits the dealers sell cheap (£120)....but dead motorcyclists, and you breaking down are obviously fun for ford and no one cares about anything...
