Rusty Rear LHS Passenger Door - Bottom - 2001 Ford Focus Ghia - Macclesfield.

Treated Bottom of Door yesterday evening.

Some deteriorated metal broke off, but still treated the area generally.

Treated with Rust Converter.

Car will be outside through the winter.

Any advice? 

Want to attempt a repair myself.

Don`t want to use any potentially harmful Glass Fibre Products.

Plastic Padding maybe????

    I would not put any permanent repair on it for quite a while. Maybe some waxoyl or similar soft waxy protection, but keep using rust convertor (I just use phosphoric acid) until all the rust is stabilsed fully. Any permanent rigid repair will just peel off in time if put on too soon. I would wait for warmer, dry weather before any proper repair.

    If the Mondeo mk3 is anything to go by, there was a production issue with the doors, something about the bonding between inner and outer skins, that wasn't resolved till 2004/5, resulting in door bottoms corroding. Your best bet is to find a replacement door from a later model. I ended up replacing all 4 of mine.
