Women Drivers!!!!

Featured Replies

Hurt my poor wee car today trying to get into a driveway, scraped it along a gate, both sides! Gutted :( Thank heavens for protected no claims discount. Taking it to the bodyshop tomorrow for them to give the Insurance company the bad news :(

Awww, sorry to hear :( I'd be well gutted too! I was gutted just scuffing an alloy!

Both Sides?

How?

X bad luck though X

Not quite sure how, didn't have a wide enough swing in so the drivers side bumper caught the right side of the gate, I possibly tried to compensate and caught the back wing on the other side of the gate. Woman said to me that t-cut might fix it!!! ahemmm! (think she felt sorry for me cos I was in tears) My dad thinks I'm looking at around £900 damage - will see tomorrow.

:(

Driveways are never wide enough are they.

At least the insurance will cover it. Think i would also cry

Any piccys of the damage?

I'll take some tomorrow if I am brave enough.

What's really annoying is I was originally parked on the street and the woman I was visiting said I would be best to move it into the drive as I would probably be booked (permit holders only) I would far rather have had a parking ticket! Hindsight is a wonderful thing

900 quid??? who you getting to do it?! mine needed a new wish bar, new shocks new tires new right wing panel and painting and all that i got done for 600.... someone tried too over take me as i was turning into a lane for some stupid reason i had me indicators on an all :) their fault on insurance thank god!!! 1 st week of driving :(

That's only my dad's opinion - he is a master of exaggeration

It's going to the place where the Insurance company told me to take it to, which is fine as they did an excellent job the last time and are well respected in Edinburgh. Last time my Ka was keyed along the wing and the door and that was around £300. Just hope the Hot Magenta paint isn't going to cause a problem.

Been to they bodyshop and they have assessed the damage, just need to wait and hear when it can be booked in.

I have a chip on the offside door and I asked them if they could give me a separate quote for that, it sounds as though they would respray the whole door, cos he said they would need to remove the trim, the mirror and the door handle. Does that sound right? It's only a chip - it's not down to the metal but has taken off the top layer of paint, it's about quarter to half the size of a 5p.

Oh nooo, your poor car. I'd be devastated!! Glad it's getting sorted fairly painlessly :)

Can relate 2 this as I did similar thing when trying 2 reverse my car out of our garage, we have a wall around our driveway which I scraped the side and back bumper against! Ouch! Only 2 weeks old at the time, that cost me £100 2 fix. Parking and particularly reversing in2 and out of parking is my least fave thing in the whole world!! Good luck with your repair, the hot magenta might b tricky tho I think.

Yeah I'm a bit worried bout the paint, I guess they will respray the wing and the bumper - it has to look better than it does now tho'

Oh nooo! Sorry to hear about that... like you say thank God for the protected NCD, you've earnt a little scrape, I reckon!

Hi, which bodyshop do you go to? Im in Bonnyrigg, midlothian and in need to take the car in to get looked at for various chips and dents etc, so would like to try and go somewhere thats recommended. cheers :)

I always thought the woman driver thing was just a stereotype but now i have my doubts.

Not blonde too are you? :D

Duddingston Coachworks near the Ford garage at Bailleyfield, they did a superb job on my Ka. Only thing I would say is that they seem to want to respray the whole door for a tiny chip so may not be cheap! They are highly regarded for their work though.

And Ryan yes I am blonde - cheeky git

Got the car back, no copy invoice so haven't a clue how much it cost, pretty expensive I think 'cos they were going to charge me £160 to fix the chip on the door. They've left me a little touch up kit for that although one bottle is pink and one is clear, they told me that the lacquer was tinted.

They've done a great job though and I'm so happy to have it back!
