Why does WiFi broadband speed vary from laptop to phone?

When using Speedtest, don't choose the default server. It might not be the closest and thus give a different speed. Try to manually choose the same server on both phone and laptop and see.

Stephen, have you considered homeplugs? You can then get same speed as if you had plugged in directly to the router.

You mean like these which I already have? (Use for Sky box & FireStick) Now, how do you plug them into your phone? LOL

We was using our wifi from the phones and had been for a long time as they are both " Unlimited" usage but the rolling contract finishes in October so see it a chance to go back to lesser package as I can now use works wifi when on a break and then use wifi at home from the router.

The engineer took almost an hour trying to find the line to connect to as it's not had a phone line here for almost 20yrs just a BT socket on the wall that the engineer has had to upgrade.

Hopefully sorted now as all TVs and wireless cameras are connected and working as they should be 👍

@Wino if the Openreach engineer had to update the main socket then this should make things easier for eliminating any source of noise (the newer sockets have filters) and include a test socket which simply needs the front face to be unclipped (think they were screwed in on older versions) and will remove any internal extensions that sometimes can impact FTTC connections.
