Brand New Fiesta With Paint Damage

Featured Replies

This is a picture of the paint damage to my brand new car (sorry about the quality, damn phone camera)

I'm not sure if i should just leave it as i'm worried a re-spray might look worse.

Any suggestions on what i should/could do??

Hi,

Sorry to hear about this; if this blemish was on my car then I'd reject the vehicle - but then I'm very particular about my car.

You could always accept the dealer's offer of a re-spray, but make it clear that, if you weren't happy afterwards, you reserved the right to reject the car. I'm sure that you'd be well within your consumer rights to do so.

My own (brand new) Fiesta was delivered with a straight, 3 foot long scratch right down the centre of the roof - which I didn't spot until the day after delivery because it had rained on the day when I got the car hence the roof was dirty. Fortunately though my scratch was minor enough for me to polish out - though I spent an hour doing so, very carefully so as not to go through the paint!

I don't think dealers pay enough attention to things like this when checking the car over prior to delivery. Make a fuss!

If it's any help I had my bonnet resprayed under warranty after I found a small mark on it (looked very much like a piece of grit had been sprayed over when it was originally painted). My dealer picked the car up from my workplace on Monday, left a courtesy car then took my car over 40 miles back to the main dealership for the repairs (local base has no spraying facilities). I got my car back on Wednesday morning looking like it should have done in the first place.

All in all I'm very pleased with the quality of the work and the service from the dealers (Pye Motors).

Update:

http://i844.photobucket.com/albums/ab7/barkybearbrown1/car_mark_large.jpg

My ford dealers has finally got back to me with 2 options on repairing the damaged paint work my car came with.

Option 1 - Take it to my local dealer and get it re-sprayed (the rear quarter panel will also need blending).

Option 2 - Drive 100 miles (and wait around allday) to the dealer i bought it from and they will swap the whole door with a sea grey fiesta they have in the showroom. Though i did say if this was the option i chose i would expect them to come and pick the car up and drop it off as i don't see why i should be inconvenienced for being sold a faulty car.

Which is the better of these 2 Evils??

To be honest i'm unhappy with both but have been told by ford that i can't reject the vehicle until they have had a chance to repair it.

To get this far has already taken Ford/Ford Dealers 2 weeks....

I have chosen to get the door swapped with another brand new sea grey fiesta they have in the compound rather than a respray, so please if anyone thinks this is the wrong decision please let me know as they pick it up tomorrow.

Also i do feel sorry for whoever's door they are swapping it with as someone else will be picking up what they think is a brand new car only for it to have a resprayed 2nd hand car door.

You're right, that's flipping ridiculous. I'm happy that you're getting your problem sorted but it's pretty unscrupulous of the dealer to just palm it off to another buyer. I know they do rework in the factory but that just seems really snidy.
