MK8 ST Limited Edition Long Term Valuation?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering what other people's opinions were on what they think would retain its value in the long term more, the Performance Edition, or the Edition?

I'm hoping its the Performance Edition but I was just wondering what other people thought as the Performance Edition is UK market only but there are less 'Editions' in the UK.

I'd be interested to hear what other people think.

I would expect both to demand a small premium come 3+ years time over and above the equivalent ST’s.

As time goes on people’s memory of what made these limited editions special fade away, and when trawling the used car market people are after the best value for their money. Some of the special edition colours won’t be to everyone’s taste either.

But for the few enthusiasts who’ve put their hands in their pockets early on, those people will appreciate the unique features and if they don’t sell them you could find they hold their value well. If loads come back on to the market at 3 years old then sadly you may find values will be more comparable to the standard offering.

That is a good point, I would suggest that the fans of the special editions would be a majority of car enthusiasts, due to the quirky colours. I don't intend to sell mine anytime soon, if I need a different car, I will probably look to buy a cheaper car which is a bit older for daily driving, but I'd own it alongside the Fiesta. I guess it's more of a waiting game as to how valuable they become in the long term, but I see your point, the cars can be highly valued at the moment because of how unique they are but if something newer, or more limited is introduced, it may change the whole picture, hence I'm hoping Ford will not introduce any new limited edition fiestas, I think too many limited editions will defeat the whole object of why they are special.

Editions are limited to how many they want to sell. Stamped tin motorcars like ours are common and replaced by better ones. Limited editions are for mugs. Legionnaires' disease is very rare indeed and nobody wants it.

Dealers in the Uk struggled to shift all of the Performance Editions and some where even retailing new at the same or slightly below the standard ST3 depending on location. As @Aldridge Andysays it's all about supply and demand, if there are loads up on the 2nd hand market once the typical 3 year lease plan has ended, then they wont be the same kind of "special demand" to them as a pose to there being few for sale, and so the prices will reflect that.

I'm not sure that just because the Performance Editions was Uk only and the Editions where Europe only will make the price differ much, though i might be wrong. Only time will tell.

Orange cars are cool 😉

How many limited did they make, because it seems like everyone has one on Instagram 😂 saying that when they bought out the mk6 st special edition people soon forgot about it until one came up on piston heads a few year ago with 500 miles on it, that went for £££££

You're a mug to think that it will be worth more than any other fiesta. Fashion is what goes out of fashion - particularly with colours.

Hi, there were 600 made for the Performance Edition, and 300 of the 'Edition' were made.

I never physically said they would be worth more, all I've asked is for what other people thought, so calling me a mug isn't really necessary if I'm honest. Just a bit spiteful.

For maximum resale value, go for sober colours

By ‘sober’ colours, we mean blue, silver, black and (in moderation), white. These simply have the broadest appeal and, when it comes to long-term value, will more or less retain their value if the car were to change hands. Monochrome colours have always been popular, too.

Avoid brighter colours where you can

Because they don’t have such a broad appeal, we recommend that you avoid brighter and more lurid colours if you want to get the maximum value for a car. This also applies to any colours that could be described as obscure; if you go for a colour that is less familiar with people, then you’re effectively excluding huge portions of your potential buyer pool.
