Unable to replace 20amp fuse in 2010 Ford Fiesta Titanium

Featured Replies

There are a few posts about this which have been really helpful but I seem to have a bit of a strange problem. The cigarette lighter on my 2010 Ford Fiesta Titanium doesn’t work so I bought a J type 20amp fuse to fix it. On inspection, there is no fuse in bay 30 (which the online manual states is the correct one). However, there are also no pins to put the replacement fuse in that socket. The other J type fuses in the box don’t have pins but the sockets do. Am I being really stupid here or is this actually the wrong location for this trim?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jame, welcome to the Ford Owners Club. [please fill in the rest of the details, car, year etc]

You are not the first to have this problem with the fues for the cigarette lighter on the Fiesta. If you can post a photo of the fues box that is fitted to your model then I can probably tell you the correct fues.

Thanks for your reply. I believe I’ve updated all of the info but please let me know if anything is missing.

I’ve attached a photo. I believe the fuse should go in the 6th block from the left but there are no pins to plug the fuse in to.

Thanks again.

Given the model year of your car the fuse box could only be one of 3 different types.

Box 1 = Fuse number 18 - 20 Amp.        Box 2 = Fuse number 30 - 20 Amp.         Box 3 = Fuse number 29 - 15 Amp

I see your problem, it does look like it should be fuse 30 for your car. Is the socket factory fitted ?

Thanks again. Yeah, I think it’s #2 which would suggest it’s a 20amp fuse in socket 30. However, there are no pins so the replacement fuse doesn’t fit. Do I need a different type of fuse to the one pictured or am I missing something?

I bought the car second hand but I can’t imagine anything having been changed since purchase. The USB socket functions fine but I assume that’s a different fuse? If not, maybe it’s a connection issue.

I can see from the photo you posted that there is one fuse fitted on the bottom left corner, just as a test, try removing that fuse and putting in position 30 to see if it will fit. If not then I guess that position 30 is not the location for your fuse.

So the issue is the pins remain in that socket. Therefore, the fuse won’t fit in 30. There are no pins on the fuses themselves, just in the sockets. Is that the norm?

Those type of fuses have the pins on the inside of them (thats normal for them). If there are no signs of pins in the fuse box socket then it will be a different fuse location for your socket.

I will see if I can find an update for your model as your fuse box is not quite as per the photo I posted.

Much appreciated. There are no available J type pins on that row so I assume that means it’s either a blade fuse in another location or a one of the existing 30amp fuses powers the lighter and USB socket?

Looking at this site it suggests fuse 18 is for the lighter socket too, but that’s currently got a 7.5amp fuse in. Baffling!

Hi James, everything seems to point to fuse 30, watch this YouTube video. I'm thinking that your car may have been built with out the socket and its been added later

Thanks. Yeah, that video is what led to me buying the fuse but the socket just doesn’t have the pins. If it was retrofitted, is there any way of establishing which fuse it is? I’ve not been able to find a spec list that details if a cigarette lighter was fitted as standard but it looks like it would have either been that or a 12v socket.

Another post on this forum suggests it should be a blade fuse in F22 which does currently have a 20amp fuse in but I can’t find a diagram that supports that.

And that’s problem solved. Looks like the fuse is actually in socket 22. Swapped it with the wiper fuse and it works fine. Can’t find any documentation to support it but hopefully this will help if anyone else has the same problem. Thanks for your help!

Well done 👍 and good to know that its fuse 22 for future referance
