are you sure that its just it does not have a data plan ? The use of the built-in modem for Wifi is not free.

Go to vehicle settings on your sync3 and you should be able to see the serial number of the modem.

I'm just guessing I haven't got a modem but this is down to having downloaded the my ford app and trying to add my car vin number and getting message car currently not supposed or something like that

I'm sure your car will have a modem and it will be working - Just not for Wifi. On the inside roof of your car will be a button, with "SOS" if you have that then you have a modem.

On your Sync3 screen go to "Settings" this will show you 'On-Board Modem Serial Number' and if you select that then it will display the number, and confirm that you have a modem fitted and working.

See the attached photos:

I wouldn’t bother paying Vodafone for data. 1. You probably have plenty data on your mobile phone? And 2. Last i heard Vodafone were wanting £100 for 100gb ….extortion. Although that was 2 years ago. Unless you’ve 3 kids with iPads I really wouldn’t bother. Out of interest , you should have live traffic? If so are you paying monthly?

Unless you have Ford navigation you won’t have live traffic.

Thanks for your help i

Vodafone still want £100 for 100g for one year.  At least ***** Turpin wore a mask!

Can’t believe that Mr Turpin’s first name has been censored!

Can I not connect the cars WiFi to my phone's hotspot and use that for the maps updates and traffic information?

I tried briefly the other day, but the cars available WiFi list didn't show it on the screen, so I thought it's not possible.  Is there anything else I need to do?

Forget that, it's patently obvious I am talking rubbish! 🤣

Your car won’t have wifi unless you’ve paid Vodafone? Assuming you’ve not had the car from new? They came with a complimentary amount of data for car wifi. Anyway I don’t know of anyone downloading map updates using the cars wifi , it’s surely possible 🤔. I got F9 OTA on my house wifi in my drive. Bit by bit over a week.

Getting the car to download updates via Wifi, whether that be using the cars own built in modem (if thats possible? it should be, but who knows) or by using your home or similar Wifi,  has its own problems !!

Many of the big updates take well over an hour, somtimes even 4 or 5 hours to download. The car will only download when the ignition is on and most cars now will automatically turn off after 10 minuets to save the cars battery. So to avoid that you have to leave the car running with the engine on, and also disable the automatic engine switch off, because if the car has been idling for approximately 20 minutes with no driver activity it will switch off.

In short the only way to be sure of doing the big upates is to download to a USB at home then use that to do the update. Be warned using the Ford USB update files has its own problems, hence the 1000's of threads on this forum of issues on doing updates. Even Ford dealerships seem to strugle and in many cases fail.

Hello everyone.

I want your help.

I bought a Ford focus aktiv 2021 diesel with sync 3 and I can't connect the car to my app.. it says you must accepted from a authorized driver..

I'm the owner now. I can't find the first owner. I try a hard reset but still the same problem, I try also to remove the fuse from the modem from passengers place and also I put off my cars battery but it can't reset and still have the same problem!!

Any suggests???

Thanks Lefteris.
