I just wanted to give you an update on updating Sync 3 to the latest build

I Own a Ford Focus 2020 Model made Feb 2020. It Original came with F8 maps and I think either Sync 3.4 Build 19200 or 19274

Since Owning the car I’ve done many of the updates either OTA (Over the Air) or USB.
USB updates have always been the Sync System itself and the Map updates have been OTA.

On this occasion I have done the Sync 3.4 Build 20351 to 20120 via USB which updated
In updating the 20120
My Gracenote version went from 1.1.1.1319 (EU-0010) to 1.1.1.2319 (EU-0020).

One I have done the update via USB and updated the log file, the Map update then disappeared from the Sync Update system. This has happened before and now I know I have to use the update through WIFI version.

So, I place a 4G/5G hotspot into my car and just let it do its thing over the next couple of weeks driving. I take pics of everything so I can see what is presented in which order.
So here goes. 
Please bare in mind this is over WIFI and not USB

Maps F10 (1U5T-14G424-BK was issued after every single update one at a time)

·       1U5T-14G421-BCH

·       1U5T-14G421-BEH

·       4U5T-14G422-BAF

·       1U5T-14G421-BFH

·       1U5T-14G421-BGH

·       1U5T-14G421-BDH

After the last one had finished, it advised no further updates. I went back to the Sync update on the PC and then was advised that there was an 8.6GB update Map_8630403394_Update.

However, like all the others, once downloaded and installed on a USB stick. When you try to update the car with it, I’m presented with the MEM_0001 error.

I thought I would therefore change the languages of the car which I did do and download the languages over the Hot Spot which I did last time with Maps F9

So, one by one I went through the languages and was able to download the remaining 3 language packs by choosing
Spanish               4U5T-14G422-BBF         
Russian               4U5T-14G422-BCF
Swedish              4U5T-14G422-BDF

You sometimes have to choose other languages to check as well just incase one of the above doesn’t work, but as rule the updates come down over these languages.

They all installed fine and I was then able to produce a Sync Log file update using the Sync Tool on the Ford Website and I’ve now no further updates.

 

All in all, the whole end to end procedure took 2 weeks, using the car and on many occasions going outside to switch the car on for a few moments to allow the system another 20 mins of usage when the car is switched of.

I wish Sync on the Ford Website would be a much simpler solution with the maps and updates, but I know that doing the updates OTA do work, but take time.

For the new feature, I’m now presented on my main display on the dashboard, up and coming roadworks on the road I’m driving.

New roadwork feature, I’ve not spotted yet. 
I got f10 today , 2hrs 20mins through USB. I had got F9 OTA in a week . I can’t remember creating a log file for that (was my first download.)

Log file for a sync update I did prior to F10 was an xml file iirc , not anymore. I can’t remember what the log file is called but it’s not xml . Looking at what the usb stick contains (very little amount of files) it’s there. Double click ….done. 
I’d got F9 OTA simply cause Ford weren’t offering me it on the website at the time. 
Roadwork feature looks good. 🙂

Is it possible the Road construction ahead warning is Local Hazard Information? I don’t have that tech.

I'm guessing it could be. I've had my ST for 1 year and have never seen the second circle? Light up next to the speed limit sign shown in the pictures until I updated to the newest software and was able to switch on local hazard information in the settings.

I don’t have Local Hazard Information in settings. I don’t know if I’ll have to pay the same subscription as owners who have live Traffic AND LHI . Seems a bit unfair if I do. I mean Apple maps etc all give the same/similar real time traffic info.

You will have to unless you come to some arrangement with Ford.

Hi Alex.  Yes my local hazard info was switched on after I installed version 21020.

And I did a master reset I think.

It’s sync version 3.4 21020 I updated to.

sorry got my numbers the wrong way round,

 

21 is the year

020 is the 20th day, so the 20th Jan when it was created.

I’m in the car. Connectivity settings is not opening..I didn’t have LHI listed before. In fact the ford pass connect people said my car isn’t equipped for it. 😞 

Any idea what the LTE car symbol is? Top right

it’s something to do with hotspot. Not something I’m interested in.

Yes, got it a week ago. Then got f10 maps yesterday. Hadn’t checked connectivity settings until now. It’s not opening at all..

Although some of us, including myself and Alex are running sync 3.4 21020 and maps F10 unfortunately we have no option on the 'Connectivity Settings' screen to select LHI as you can see from the screen shot below.

As Alex has pointed out Its annoying if you choose to pay as I do the full monthly sub for 'Live Traffic' and 'Local Hazard Information' to only receive half the expected functionality.

The 

LTE is Vodafone 4G.  It’s just showing you it’s there ready.

if you turn on Vehicle Hotspot and then go back to connectivity settings, does it then allow you in and show you.?

I leave my hotspot on all the time, even when there is no data.

You can still uses 4G voda network for some parts of Sync 3 to work. Ford pay for this bit.

is the hotspot switched on, mine is never off.

also I did a master reset for it to work.

I’m only had car 16 months, so still getting all the sync extras for free.

how much is it after tho?

Some older MK4 Focus cars don't have the correct modem for local hazard information. 

Local Hazard information and traffic is £3.99 a month a believe. Its free for 12 months or 24 months if the car was registered before August 2020.

I think it’s cars built after January 2020 have the newer modem. PLB Paul have you contacted ford pass people about paying the same as those with LHI ? I sent an email weeks ago…no response. 

Talking about new features , in Ford navigation has anyone got “Enhanced 3D option” ? 
 

I've not. Or if I have I’ve not found it yet!

Ah right that makes sense re modem.  My car is Jan 31st 2020.

my modem software received an over air update in early June as well. it’s resolved an error sometimes with it,

I have a 3D map option that doesn’t seem to do anything. I have iPhone so don’t use google maps but their 3D maps are brilliant iirc . 
Here’s the video that mentions enhanced 3D option… it’s at 2mins 20secs 

Like LHI I don’t think I have it.

If it's the one I believe it is, 3D needs to be enabled on the navigation map and then enabled in settings. I believe it says it only works in cities. Its not called enhanced 3D though.

You’re correct. ‘3D City Model’ in Map Preferences. 
If you get LHI you probably get enhanced 3D too 🤔 

im in the car now. Pressing the north button changes view . I’d never sussed that out in 2 years! Lol

I doubt enhanced 3D view has anything to do with LHI. It's probably the 3D city view, just been renamed.
