karlbbb
Hey all, looking to get some smaller wheels for my Focus (drop from 18" to 17") and I'll likely just buy the wheels new, and stick on new tyres. Now, the car has TPMS so I'll have to get proper valves. Is there any situation where I wouldn't need to "reprogram" the car to recognise the new valves? For example, if I bought genuine Ford valves would they just work on the new car after storing the new values, or will I always have to have a tool and go through the crazy ignition cycles and brake pedal presses to get the car to be fine? F0CUE
You would need to program the new TPS valves it's pretty simple to do with plenty guides on the internet.
JamboChris
Owning a Mk3.5, I've never had to reprogramme anything when changing the TPMS sensors.
Guy Heaton
Yeah just wait a couple of restart cycles and the car will know where they are.
karlbbb
Thanks all. The process looks easy enough but seems it would require the purchase of a - admittedly cheap - learning device from eBay. Was hoping I'd get away from that if I used genuine Ford valves or whatever. Now just to save up the £1000 I'll need to replace my wheels with smaller ones - unless anyone wants to swap their 17" TX wheels for my 18" option ST-Line-X-like wheels (same shape etc, just a normal alloy colour, not the darker "Rock Metal" found on the ST-Line-X)? 😄

Which vehicle and what procedure have you used? Not having much luck with mine.
