Refitted refurbished abs module now no speedo & no abs light

⁷Ok got the abs warning light on, abs not working, code c1095 pump motor circuit failure. Decided to fit a breaker module while I sent the original for refurbishment. Immediately noticed the abs light didn't light up on test anymore, speedo & revs not working, although the mileage counter & trip counter are still both working.

Got the original module back & refitted it. Abs now working lovely testing it on wet grass but still no abs light at all & no speedo or rev counter working, but mileage & trip counter & everything else ok. Done the lamp test, no abs lamp, done the gauge sweep, no revs or speedo. Do I need a replacement instrument panel & is it true it will need coding or the car will not start please?

No and Yes.

No you don't need a new instrument panel, you just need it fixed. Look on eBay for Instrument Cluster Refurbishment/Repair, it costs about £70.

Yes if you do replace your instrument cluster it will need to be programmed otherwise the PATS security system will prohibit your car from starting. Also the replacement instrument cluster will need to hav lower mileage than your car has. It is only possible to adjust mileage upwards so a replacment IC with higher mileage would be no use.

You can do the programming yourself using a laptop, and ELM327 lead and Forscan software with the full licence (£10). I would say your best option is to get your original instrument panel repaired, its a lot less hassel.

Sounds good, I probably need to add that the mileage & trip mileage still work ok & all the other lamps & guages do too. I'll investigate this cheers.

This does sound strange. I would be wondering if it’s something to do with the wiring connector on the abs module. Although it wouldn’t really explain why the rev counter doesn’t work

It does sound like an internal fault in the IC. The lamp test & gauge sweep are entirely internal functions, and the mileage & trip counters both need info from the ABS (wheel speed) over the CAN bus. So I can see no direct connection to the ABS change. The only electrical connections between IC & ABS are power (12v) and HS-CAN bus. The CAN bus goes to lots of other places and will bring up lots or error messages if there was a fault. I guess the battery was disconnected for the ABS swap, and it could be the IC failed to re-boot properly, due to some subtle internal fault that had not shown up before. So the co-incidence of both seeming to fail at the same instant may be more likely than you would think.

RPM does not come from ABS, it comes from the PCM, which decodes the crank sensor signal.

A new IC is very expensive, fitting a used one is problematic as Unofix says, so I would also investigate a re-furb unit.
