Brian Easton
Going to have a test drive in a 2013 registered Feb 2014 Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost Titanium 32k miles next week. Just been doing research and have found I must change the oil regularly re turbo and cam belt problems. Very scared re reports of transmission failures and problems. Do I stay clear or what do I lookout for?
Luke4efc
Mostly just good service history and make sure the gearbox feels smooth. The coolant pipes feeding the turbo are prone to rust (easily treatable if you catch it early enough). They're integral to the turbo so you have to fit a new turbo if they fail.
Brian Easton
Thanks Luke. Are the pipes steel? Treat with rust converter and paint? Had Fords years ago and always had great gearboxes just terrified of all the tales off woe re engine/ transmission faults. It is getting new discs pads and a spring, serviced and mot'd before I drive it. The sales video looks great.
Luke4efc
They're not going to make the sales video look bad are they lol. Here's the lengthy topic on the coolant pipes. If they're too rusty like the ones in the picture then they're a bit beyond repair. The mk7.5 fiesta still uses the same IB5 gearbox they used more than 20 odd years ago. The only difference is the power output of the engines has doubled since they first started using this gearbox, so it's right on its torque limit. As long as you don't remap it and crunch it into every gear you shouldn't have any issues and I wouldn't let it worry you at all.
Brian Easton
Much obliged Luke. I now know the most serious faults to look out for. Thankyou.
Rogue2
I had a 2013 (63) 1.0 titanium & never had any problems with it in the 3 years I owned it (apart from driving over a dead deer laying in the road along a dark unlit road at 5:30am).

Thanks. So the projector halogen headlights are rubbish! 😆

fiestalux
I have a 2014 same spec Fiesta, with probably about not much more miles on the clock than he one you are getting. It is generally used for (pre-covid) daily commutes (not long) and the occasional 500-1500km weekend/holiday drive somewhere. If the vehicle has been given regular servicing at the required intervals it should be fine. In the years I have had mine the only faults have been: - Handbrake button was so stiff the whole thing was replaced about 200UKP incl. fitting at a dealer - Faulty heating resistor (under warranty) but about 85UKP - Gears needed realigned, as getting into certain gears was not fun.... cost about 70UKP - And this week a replaced turbo inlet pipe 85UKP approx. - Rubber seal came off on the door, they fixed it for free. Generally a very reliable little car.
