FordSpanner
2013 reg The manual quotes WSS-M2C91-C oil but all the other cars we have run on 5w30 VW504.0/507.00 oil. I know the VW sepc oil is slightly thicker at running temperature but it has a superior additive. Any harm running the Ford engine on the VW oil? I noticed SCT have a Ford spec oil on their Mannol label but its data sheet shows its thicker than other 5w30 WSS-M2C91-C/D oils which seems odd. You have just answered your own question, the VW oil is thicker and therefore not the same. Also since neither VW or Ford make oil what makes you think that the VW oil has a superior additive ? Ford recommend the use of Castrol Magnatec in there engines which is one of the best oils available.
FordSpanner
An interesting view point, thanks. When I say the VW spec oil is slightly thicker, its still within the viscosity limit for SAE30 grade. The Ford spec is blended for the lower end of SAE30 for the benefit of economy. Indeed, Castrol blend quality oils as do other oil brands. No car manufacture blends oil but they do formulate and issue specifications for the oil requirements. VW504.00/507.00 is a high specification that meets the requirements of most engine technologies requiring a 5w30.
