2012 Fiesta Edge - Coolant issues

Featured Replies

Looking for a real quick answer and potential solutions cause I need this car working soon so here’s the scoop:

- Bought the car yesterday on private sale. Took it home, drove fine. No issues. Went out later on at night time, sat in traffic for 5-10m and white steam starts coming out the bonnet. Had a quick look, coolant reservoir boiling hot.

Looked under the hood again this morning when I had good light and visibility to give a more thorough check > Coolant cap was half-screwed down, coolant level was below minimum, engine oil was below minimum. Topped both up.

No signs of any leaks, no smoke out the exhaust and the oil was of good colour when I checked so I don’t think it’s the Head Gasket blown, but also noticed that the radiator fan wasn’t spinning while the engine was running… checked the green 40A fuse in the engine bay, blown.

Bought a replacement fuse, installed, no joy. Still no radiator fan running.

So naturally I’m assuming it’s going to need the radiator fan replaced - but thought I’d ask you people who know what they’re talking about before I make my next move.

If anyone has any useful guidance or experience please share it below, scratching my head here!

I wouldn’t assume the fan needs replacing without checking the fan. I think you need to disconnect the fan and apply 12 volts directly to it from the battery and see if fan works. Did the new fuse blow?, have you got aircon, if you turn aircon on does fan come on, radiator fan normally runs all the time aircon is on even if engine not hot. Think your car does not have a temp gauge, is that right?
