one side powerfold mirror not functioning correctly

Featured Replies

We recently got a new car for my mum (2014 titanium 1.0L Eco boost petrol 5dr). Both mirrors fold and unfold with the button in the car, but won't fold when locking the car unless you press and hold the lock button (and yes the fold on lock option was enabled, even tried disabling it and re-enabling it, also tried the mirror reset procedure), then if you unlock the car, only the left unfolds and you have to press the fold mirror button int eh car to get the right one to unfold, the DDM is also reporting intermittent short/ circuit open on the puddle light, power fold motor, and mirror up/ down motor. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Ben, it sounds like a problem with the Door control module. I'm not sure where it is located in your car but like the many problems people get with the BCM getting water in the connectors I think it would be worth checking it out for signs of corrosion with the DCM

would you be able to tell me where exactly the DCM is located in the car?

Sorry I don't know the location but if you put your VIN number in on this site you may be able to see where it is in the electrical section

If you want to send me a private message with the VIN number and Registration number I will see if I can find the details for you

Hi, firstly this is a better site to use for looking at parts than the other one I posted:   https://ford.7zap.com/en/car/

The DCM (there are 2) are mounted inside the drivers front door and also inside the passenger front door. The drivers side is the master unit.

On your car (Mothers) it seems that the mirrors are not controlled by the DCM but in fact controlled by the GEM (same idea as the BCM).

The GEM is part of the passenger side fusebox assembly mounted behind the glovebox. It would be worth connecting up a laptop to the OBDII port and checking with Forscan to see if there are any DTC's regarding the GEM.

One sure way to force all modules to do a full re-initialisation is to disconnect the vehicle battery for at least 20 minutes. Before doing that make sure that both mirrors are folded out.

If there are no DTC's and doing the battery disconnect reset does not sort the issue then the next stage will be to start disconnecting and checking the connectors to the GEM and looking for signs of corrosion on any of the pins.

Ok, But when i was initially looking into this, the codes were in the DDM, is the DDM part of the GEM?

Hi Nev, the DDM is the "Drivers Door Module" which is normally just called the DCM "Door Control Module" but I guess with the Fiesta having one in each door it makes sence to give them diffrent names.

I had forgot you mentioned that there was a possible fault with the DDM, the command to fold / unfold the mirrors is handled by the GEM but is then passed on to the DDM which I understand your power fold mirror plugs in to (probably just ussing it as a junction box). The drivers door module is inside the door and so could very well get wet and suffer from corrosion just like the GEM sometimes can.

since I'm not currently at my parents place, I'm not going to be able to check this for a few weeks, but as i say the codes that are being given sound like DDM issues, if it was the GEM, then wouldn't the power fold mirrors on both sides not work properly?

The wiring harness connected to the GEM is split out and has wiring going to both front doors (as well as lots of other stuff) so it would be posible to have say the contact pin for the drivers side to corrode which would not affect the passenger side. Having said that I would start by checking the drivers side door control module. It may still be worth doing the battery disconnect first to see if the modules reset, its less hassel than taking the door to bits 🤔
